Righteousness is probably the most notable and most important quality of a person that is mentioned in the Bible. Throughout the Old and New Testaments, from Genesis, to Psalms and Proverbs, to the Gospels and Apostles’ Letters, righteousness is stressed very much. There are about 250 occurrences of the word righteous or righteousness, which means that God really wants us to master our godliness and be closer to him. A righteous person is one who obeys God’s commandments and is blameless in his sight. Nobody is perfect, but those who make it their life’s purpose to serve God and do his will can strive to be sinless and righteous. Anyone striving to be righteous may sin, but when they do sin, they repent quickly. Take a look at Hebrews 11. Those righteous people were faithful and close to God. They made mistakes, but they sought forgiveness and continued their work, which made them some of the greatest Biblical heroes. Righteousness covers listening to God’s will and commandments, obeying his instructions, and exhibiting good qualities (fruits of the spirit, etc). By applying God’s word and listening to what He says, you can be on your way to being considered righteous in God’s eyes.
