Peace is the third fruit of the spirit mentioned in the Bible. It is very important to have this as a Christian so that we can make it through the worst times in our life. Like joy, true peace can only be established through a relationship with God. Paul stated this in Romans 5:1, where he said, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Faith through a relationship with God is key to having peace in one’s life. Think of it this way. We are God’s children getting carried through life. Being carried by God, we can always be sure that the worst storms in life won’t destroy us. But without that relationship with God, or in this case not being carried by God, we won’t be able to make it through the worst storms in life. Without God, we can’t do it. God gives us peace to make it through anything. This is because he is the source of peace and the only source of authority in this universe.

How do we ensure peace in our lives? Well, we can’t only have a relationship with God. We must also respect those whom God respects. In other words, we must show kindness, goodness, and love to have true peace. As stated in Romans 2:10, “But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile,” we must be good to others in order to really have peace in our lives. To reflect on this even further, Paul wrote more about peace in Romans 14:19, where he said, “Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.” We must look for peace in the world and show the peace in our own hearts in order for others to pick up on the fact that we are peaceful. If we only dwell on that which is peaceful, then others will look at us and think, “Those people seem different from the rest of us.” The peace in our own hearts, as acquired through Jesus, can be a way to be a representative of Jesus Christ.
