Forgiveness is perhaps the most essential part of Christian life. We must regularly ask God to forgive us of our sins, and we must forgive others of theirs. When God forgives, he puts our sins as far as the east is from the west. While we may not be as capable, we should think of what we expect from others when we ask them for forgiveness when we forgive others. Here are some Bible verses on the subject:

Ephesians 4:32 – “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”

Mark 11:25 – “And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Matthew 6:14-15 – “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:”

James 5:16 – “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

Luke 6:27 – “But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,”

Luke 6:37 – “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:”

Proverbs 10:12 – “Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.”

Colossians 3:13 – “Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”

2 Chronicles 7:14 – “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
